Bombardier delhi metro

Bombardier Transportation has received an Rs15bn ($228m) order from India’s Delhi Metro Rail (DMRC) to deliver 162 Movia metro cars.

The new trains will increase the number of DMRC’s existing fleet of Movia metros from 614 to 776 vehicles.

Delivery of the new vehicles is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2016 and expected to end in early 2018.

Bombardier Transportation India chief country representative Harsh Dhingra said: "It is an excellent endorsement of our growing relationship with Delhi Metro, who has already awarded us around $1.2bn worth of rolling stock and signalling contracts.

"It is an excellent endorsement of our growing relationship with Delhi Metro."

"These additional trains will be delivered from our state-of-the-art manufacturing sites in Vadodara."

The new rail cars will be manufactured at Bombardier’s Savli and Vadodara plants, as part of the Indian Government’s ‘Make in India’ programme to promote local manufacturing.

The new high-capacity Movia metro vehicles will be fitted with Bombardier’s Mitrac propulsion and control system and Flexx Metro 3000 bogies.

Each six-car set will have capacity for 1,740 passengers and the trains will be capable of accommodating up to 2,400 passengers when extended to an eight-car formation.

Bombardier is also DMRC’s largest signalling solutions contractor with more than 120km of line in operation or in progress for Delhi Metro lines 5, 6 and 7.

Bombardier Transportation operates a railway vehicle manufacturing site and bogie assembly hall at Savli near Vadodara, Gujarat.

The company also has a propulsion systems manufacturing facility at Maneja, a rail control solutions centre near Gurgaon, Delhi NCR, and an engineering centre in Hyderabad that serves key projects worldwide.
