Bombardier Transportation and its local partner Hartasuma are set to deliver an additional 27 Innovia Metro 300 trains for the Kelana Jaya Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The $388m order for Prasarana Malaysia Berhad is expected to be complete in 2022.

Bombardier Transportation Rail Control Solutions and South East Asia president Peter Cedervall said:  “We are very pleased to receive, together with Hartasuma, this further order that comes in addition to our ongoing delivery of 14 new trains previously ordered and refurbishment of the original fleet.

“All of these projects will significantly increase capacity on the Kelana Jaya line and improve connectivity across the fast-growing Greater Kuala Lumpur area.”

The lightweight aluminium Bombardier Innovia Metro 300 trains are capable of moving up to 30,000 passengers an hour in each direction.

Upon completion of delivery, the four-car trains are expected to provide high-capacity mobility on Kuala Lumpur’s integrated transit network.

"The four-car trains are expected to provide high-capacity mobility on Kuala Lumpur’s integrated transit network."

Bombardier has received three orders from Prasarana for a total of 374 vehicles.

The Bombardier Hartasuma consortium’s Westport facility in Malaysia is responsible for final assembly and interior fit-out for the trains.

The consortium will also increase transport capacity on the same line by converting the original Innovia fleet from 34 two-car to four-car trains with inter-car walkthrough and associated wayside system upgrade, slated for completion by 2020.

Bombardier is also currently delivering its Cityflo rail control solution for the first two lines of the new, fully automated and driverless Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system.
