GE in €170m Bosnian Rail Deal

12 May 2008 12:11

Bosnia's Serb Republic Government says it is close to clinching a €170m deal with US power giant General Electric (GE) to help rebuild its devastated rail network.

Speaking at a news conference, the Prime Minister of the autonomous region, Milorad Dodik, told Reuters the contract could be signed in a month's time with the project possibly starting in September.

In the first phase of modernisation, GE would provide the equipment for the construction of a high-speed railway section connecting the northern towns of Doboj and Banja Luka with the northwestern town of Prijedor.

Bosnia's road and rail network was destroyed in the 1992-95 war.
