UK Rail Union Threatens Easter Strike

Several hundred drivers for the UK's South West Trains are threatening to strike over pay across the four-day Easter weekend, adding to planned engineering works set to disrupt passenger journeys across the country.

The walk-out by rail union Aslef, between 31 March and 3 April, will affect journeys from London’s Waterloo Station to destinations in the south of England.

Aslef is protesting a 4.5 percent pay offer, which would give drivers an annual salary of £40,447, a deal accepted by other rail unions.

South West Trains says it will provide a reduced service, with buses replacing some trains.

UK infrastructure provider Network Rail announced engineering and improvement works would start tomorrow across busy commuter lines set to disrupt commuters over the Easter holiday.
