UK Government to Invest in Transport Technology

10 March 2008 16:49

The UK Government is to invest £8m in transport technology research in a bid to tackle congestion and pollution.

The project is part of a government drive to tackle road and rail commuter congestion but will focus on developing existing technologies rather than changing the existing transport network.

"We know we cannot simply build our way out of congestion," says Minister of State for Transport Rosie Winterton.

"We are committed to exploring innovative ways of getting more from the existing transport network...British companies will work together with academic institutions and network operators, [which] are being funded by the government's Future Intelligent Transport Systems initiative."
