Norway to Boost Passenger Rail

08 February 2008 11:24

Norway's state railroad NSB ASA plans to buy 40-60 new trains, the biggest single investment in its history.

Five companies have been asked to bid to provide the train sets with an option of buying up to 100, writes Associated Press.

The value of the contracts and delivery dates will be set as part of the bidding process, according to NSB.

NSB currently has 182 trains with their own dedicated passenger cars, as well as 32 other locomotives and 170 passenger cars.

NSB runs trains in Norway while the Norwegian National Rail Administration is responsible for maintaining and building railway lines.
