Alstom Unveils Super Fast Train

05 February 2008 09:03

French rail manufacturer Alstom has unveiled a new generation of high-speed trains in a bid to keep ahead of the high-speed revolution.

The Automotrice à Grande Vitesse (high-speed self-propelled carriage), a successor to the 320km/h TGV train, can run at speeds of 360km/h.

The AGV is a multiple-unit design allowing for more passenger space, Alstom says.

The aerodynamic design and energy efficient engines also help reduce maintenance costs, says the company.

The unveiling of the AGV will take place near La Rochelle, western France.

The trains will begin operation on the Italian high-speed network in 2011.
