Hungarian Rail Workers Back On Strike

Hungarian rail workers are to resume strike action today after negotiations between the VDSzSz rail union and the state-owned railway company MAV collapsed over the weekend.

No progress was made in the meeting, VDSzSz chief Jozsef Gasko announced, writes Forbes.

Last Friday, Hungarian rail workers held strikes for nine hours, bringing domestic and international rail transport to a standstill.

The strike was suspended over the weekend while negotiations took place.

MAV has offered rail workers a salary increase of 6.9 percent in 2008, which has been rejected by the union as being "unrealistic".
