Hungarian Rail Strike Cripples Network

A strike by the VDSZSZ railway union in Hungary has crippled the country's rail network and is set to continue indefinitely.

The strike was called after the union failed to reach agreement over wage demands with state-owned railway company MAV.

The rail union says it wants a ten percent hike in base wages backdated to 1 July last year on top of the pay rise agreed for this year.

The union is also demanding each railway worker to be paid privatisation revenues from the sale of MAV Cargo, the company's cargo unit, writes Reuters.
