UK Rail Workers Agree To 48-Hour Strike

About 500 guards and drivers working for UK rail company First Great Western will strike for 48 hours later this month, following a dispute with the UK rail company.

Yesterday, the Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) announced the workers were "angry" that First Great Western's managers have been guarding and driving trains.

"After considering reports from our people on the ground in First Great Western the RMT executive agreed that our guard members will strike on Sunday January 20 and Monday January 21," says RMT general secretary Bob Crow.

First Great Western runs services into London's Paddington station from the west and southwest of England and South Wales.

The union will now ballot other RMT members working for First Great Western to encourage votes for further action.
