Network Rail Announces New Year Disruption

20 December 2007 15:07

Wide-scale disruption for passengers travelling on New Year’s Eve has been predicted after UK rail company Network Rail announced an overrun in engineering works leading to the closure of one of Britain's busiest lines.

Network Rail has announced a one-day extension to planned engineering works from the 27 December to include the 31st, affecting thousands of passengers travelling on the West Coast Main Line.

The company, which is required to give at least 12 weeks notice of any line closures, apologies for the short-notice on a statement on its website.

Network Rail says all services operating through Rugby in the north of England on 31 December will be affected by engineering works including Virgin Trains and some London Midland and First ScotRail Sleeper services.

Alternative services will be provided either by other train operating companies or replacement buses, says the company.
