Siemens Wins Toronto Upgrade Contract

18 December 2007 12:30

Siemens Transportation Systems has won a €140m contract from the Canadian transit authority Go Transit, its biggest ever rail automation contract in North America.

The contract covers upgrading the communications, signalling and traffic control systems at Toronto's Union Station.

Siemens says the new control systems will monitor the operation of interlockings as well as overseeing automatic train tracking, timetable management and automatic route setting.

The system will also monitor and localise any faults with outdoor equipment.

The plans also include supplying up-to-the-minute information directly from the station's traffic control centre.

Union Station has more than 2,000 rights of way, making it one of the most complex stations on the continent.
