Thieves Cost UK Rail £4m

Theft of signalling equipment and cables has cost UK rail company Network Rail over £4m this year and caused train delays across the network, according to a report in The Times newspaper.

A new police task force has been set up to tackle the problem of cable and metal theft, which has increased by 150 percent in the last 18 months in some regions.

Network Rail says theft of equipment is the most common cause of train delays aside from flooding.
