Security to be Increased at UK Rail Stations

15 November 2007 14:53

Security is to be beefed-up at UK railway stations as part of government plans to tackle terrorism, UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown has announced.

The measures - also covering airports and ports - will include the introduction of portable security technology such as airport-style bag screening at 250 of the country’s largest rail stations.

The UK Department of Transport says it has no immediate plans to install permanent security scanners at railway stations following current trials with portable systems.

The announcement forms part of a wider plan to improve national security in the wake of recent failed bomb attacks in London and Glasgow Airport in June.
