German Rail Union Threatens Strikes

09 October 2007 15:40

The German train drivers union (GDL) will launch a strike this week if rail company Deutsche Bahn AG does not produce an amended wage offer, GDL have announced on German television.

Last week the union said it would hold strikes from 5 October onwards for a limited period for a 30% salary increase.

GDL have indicated that they may make concessions if Bahn's management are prepared to negotiate, says US news site Forbes.

Last Friday, GDL launched a two-hour strike on the rail network, disrupting commuter traffic in many major German cities.
