China Cranks Up High Speed Rail

11 September 2007 10:58

The latest Chinese high-speed train is in production and expected to go into service by the end of the year according to China's Beijing Morning Post newspaper.

Each China Railway High-speed (CRH) train can run at speeds of over 200km/h and has several electric-powered motorcars, compared to traditional trains that have one locomotive enabling the train to accelerate and decelerate faster than traditional trains.

A CRH train only takes 3h and 20min from Beijing to Jinan, about one hour less than the fastest traditional train.

Travel times from Beijing to Qingdao are 3 hours faster on a CRH train.
