Eurostar Sets New Record

04 September 2007 16:57

A Eurostar broke the Paris to London rail record today on the UK's first high-speed rail line.

The Eurostar travelled to the new St Pancras International station in London at speeds of over 200mph.

The 186mph (300km/h) line is expected to cut journey times from Paris to London by 20mins to 2hr 15min.

Construction of the line and revamping St Pancras station has cost £5.8bn and has experienced major engineering challenges.

The service is expected to open to the public on 14 November.
