UK Tube Workers to Strike

UK Tube workers will take part in the first of two 72-hour walk-outs after the Rail Maritime and Transport Workers Union (RMT) were unable to reach agreement with failed tube consortium Metronet.

The RMT say it has sought 'unequivocal' guarantees on jobs, transfers and pensions which Metronet did not give.

"The only assurances we have received about jobs and transfers cover only the period of administration, and that is simply not good enough", RMT general secretary Bob Crow said in a statement.

Metronet is responsible for the maintenance and renewal of London's Bakerloo, Central, Victoria, and Waterloo & City lines and Circle, District, Metropolitan, Hammersmith & City and East London lines.

The consortium went into public private partnership (PPP) administration last month after failing to meet costs.

The RMT say the 72-hour strike is due to begin on Monday from 18.00 (GMT) onwards.
