Washington Rail Hits Another Stumbling Block – 40 Years On

Washington DC – the only major capital in the world without a rail link to its largest airport – could again face delays in its Dulles International Airport rail link, 40 years since it was first planned.

According to a report in The Washington Post earlier this month, the US Federal Transit Administration is still considering if the line is worth the $900m in funding that has been holding construction back.

The FTA says discrepancies with funding guidelines could delay phase one of the project along with its rapidly growing price tag, which has almost doubled since 2004.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority will be overseeing construction of the rail line once it is given approval with the help of Dulles Transit Partners, a private consortium formed to build the project.
