India Chooses Company to Build New Trains

Indian rail company Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) will choose from bids to build and deliver 117 air-conditioned rail coaches to operate in Bangalore city.

BMRC plans to run 39 rail coaches each with three modern, light-weight coaches suitable for disabled access.

Five consortia have responded to the global tender including Chinese, Italian and German companies.

The Byappanahalli terminal in Bangalore will have the capability to park and maintain 170 coaches while the proposed Jalahalli terminal will be able to park and maintain 110 coaches.

The first train is scheduled to run between Byappanahalli and Chinnaswamy Stadium in March 2010.
