UK Rail Franchise Orders New Trains

A new UK rail route will run trains worth over £163m from the capital London to the country's second-largest city Birmingham.

Rail operator Govia, who was recently awarded the West Midlands rail franchise has ordered 37 Desiro electric multiple unit trains from German transportation manufacturer Siemens.

The new trains will operate at speeds of up to 160km/h on the route which is expected to become one of the country's busiest.
