A collision between a freight and commuter train in Harare, Zimbabwe yesterday, which killed one person and injured over 50 others, has been linked to a limited Central Traffic Control system on the line.

17 of the casualties are now reported to be in serious condition at hospitals in the Zimbabwean capital after the accident on the Harare-Mutare line.

According to local sources the Central Traffic Control system that coordinates movements of trains to prevent collisions covers only 20km of the line.
