Istanbul to get Light Railway by 2012

7 August 2007

Turkey's largest city will get a light railway and a new bridge as part of a transport overhaul, according to Turkish officials.

The new plans for Istanbul include a 250km light railway by 2012, the city's Mayor said yesterday.

The government is also currently considering an international project to build a third bridge over the Bosphorous strait. The light rail will follow the massive $3bn Marmaray rail tube tunnel project, which is expected to open in 2011.
