High-Speed Train Goes to Spain

22 June 2007 16:09

The world's fastest series-production high-speed train has been approved for service by the Spanish Rail Authority.

The Siemens' built Velaro can operate at speeds of up to 400km an hour and will be used for a passenger service between Madrid and Seville.

The order includes 14 years service and is worth more than €1bn.

The Velaro is based on ICE trainset technology designed for German Rail (Deutsche Bahn AG). ICE broke a world speed record of 403.7km/h for series production trains in 2006 using the technology.
