Chile to Start Santiago Metro Rail Project in 2012

The Chilean government is planning to start construction on lines 3 and 6 of the capital Santiago's metro system in 2012.

The two projects will involve laying down 37km of metro line and incorporating five new districts of Santiago into the system.

Track 3 of the Santiago metro system will run through the center of Santiago, linking the north and south of the capital, and will cost $400m.

Line 6, which was expected to begin in 2010, will connect the districts of Cerrillos and Vitacura, according to bnamericas.com.
