Siemens to Supply Light Rail Vehicles to Houston Metro

Siemens has secured a $83m contract to build and deliver 19 S70 light rail vehicles including spare parts, training and manuals to Houston Metro in Texas, US.

The new rail cars can operate at a maximum speed of 66ml/hr and will have a low-floor design to provide easier access for passengers.

The vehicles, which will be manufactured in Siemens' rail manufacturing plant in Sacramento, California, are expected to be delivered at the beginning of October 2012.

This is the second Siemens contract with Houston METRO and with this order, the total number of Siemens vehicles delivered to Houston reaches 37.
