Effective tamping processes
The new Unimat 09-4x4/4S closes the gap between the compact machines and the large universal tamping machines, making turnout tamping a much easier process.
Outstanding tamping output is delivered through continuous working action and well-proven components, such as the universal tamping unit, four-rail tamping and three-rail lifting for tracks and turnouts. The well-proven one-sleeper tamping technology is incorporated here, in a new machine. Lower axle loads allow a greater field of application. These are the requirements for cost-efficient, high-quality turnout maintenance.
The Unimat 09-4x4/4S achieves lasting geometrical stability, due to complete tamping of the turnout. To achieve this, Plasser & Theurer has developed a number of technologies, such as individually laterally displaceable and turning tamping units, tamping tines that can be lowered individually and combined lifting and lining units for tracks and turnouts.
Complementing three-rail lifting and four-rail tamping, this system enables careful and complete treatment of the turnouts.
State-of-the-art equipment for control and measuring units
Plasser & Theurer relies on a special machine control system, the user-friendly Plasser Intelligent Control P-IC 2.0, for effective operation. A clear, touchscreen menu guide and universal operating units allow central access to all machine functions. There are additional operating controls in the armrests, which guarantee safe and faster operation.
Precise measuring systems are incorporated in the Unimat 09-4x4/4S, such as the CAL curve laser, to extend the measuring base even in turnouts and curves. The WIN-ALC automatic guiding computer takes over full control of the measuring systems during operation.
A data recording processor (DRP) can also be used to evaluate the measuring graphs and work graphs. There is also an option to electronically transfer the measured data.
Split universal tamping units
The Unimat 09-4x4/4S Dynamic has a well-known machine design, namely a continuous action, universal tamping machine with dynamic stabilisation. This machine is adapted to conditions in the UK and the control system is fully up-to-date.
Plasser & Theurer incorporates split universal tamping units with four-rail tamping together with a lifting unit and three-rail lifting in the subframe, which functions in cyclic action. The machine equipment is completed by a sleeper detection system and the CAL curve laser system.
This machine naturally complies with the UK railway group standards, meaning that the bogies had to be re-engineered for the machine. In the course of this new design, it was the first time Plasser & Theurer used the welding method according to the pulse controlled spray (PCS) arc curve.
Optimum control and diagnosis system
Complete integration of all operating, adjusting and diagnosis functions in the new P-IC 2.0 machine control system by Plasser & Theurer enables the operator to have access to all the relevant data from the workplace.
Increased productivity via remote maintenance
The Unimat 09-4x4/4S Dynamic incorporates a Plasser Datamatic telematics module, in addition to the P-IC 2.0 machine control system.
The core of this system is the transmission of live information data of the machine such as GPS position and machine status, as well as display of individual signals and evaluation.
