Mer Mec

MER MEC on the Roof of the World

10 July 2006 12:41

When a great challenge calls, MER MEC is always at the front line. On July 1st China launched commercial service of one of the most ambitious railway projects ever undertaken, crossing some of the highest mountain passes in the world.

MER MEC has won the tender to supply diagnostic systems that will be used by Tibet Railways to securely and efficiently operate this new line running from the city of Xining, in China's Qinghai province, to Lhasa, the capital of Tibet.

The measuring systems will be developed according to technical specification defined with China's Ministry of Railway (MOR) and China Academy of Railway Sciences (CARS). Two self-propelled vehicles named PIV (Patrol Inspection Vehicle) will be equipped with MER MEC diagnostic systems and will monitor the 1.956km of the new line at the top speed of 80km/h.

The two PIVs (MER MEC has an option for equipping two additional self-propelled vehicles) will be instrumented with MER MEC's diagnostic systems for localisation and automatic track defects detection (including fish-plates). Moreover, a Track Inspection Vehicle (TIV), able to measure at the top speed of 200km/h, will be used for further inspections and analysis on the 4,200km-long line between Beijing and Lhasa.

On this car, MER MEC will install and integrate systems for track geometry, localisation, video inspection, overhead line geometry, pantograph interaction and electric parameters. MER MEC's RAMSYS asset management solution will be provided to Tibet Railways for enhancing planning and execution of the maintenance and renewal works.
