ImageMap Inc Signs Contract with Network Rail in the UK

26 March 2004 12:49

ImageMap Inc. is pleased to announce that a Contract has been signed with Network Rail, the UK track authority, for the supply of fifteen (15) Unattended Track Geometry Measurement Systems (UGMS).

Following a successful pilot project of unattended geometry systems on two Class 168 Chiltern trains with an automatic data downloading facility at London's Marylebone station, a nationwide roll-out program was incorporated in the Network Rail 2004 business plan. Network Rail will install the UGMS Hybrid units on service trains running daily on the core routes in and out of London, including the Eurostars on the new CTRL line and some Virgin cross-country trains.

Frequent track geometry measurement is Network Rail's answer to scientific track maintenance planning, cost improvements and immediate response to symptoms of rolling contact fatigue. Significant reductions in maintenance costs and improved track running speeds with improved on-time train performance are the expected benefits.

It is expected that these Unattended Geometry Systems (UGMS) will be delivered to Network Rail during the second calendar quarter of 2004, with progressive installation on passenger trains during the remainder of 2004. These UGMS-Hybrid systems will incorporate some additional hi-speed sensors from the AEA Technology Rail TrackLine System.
