The company's design capability is substantial, and Edgar Allen's fully approved RT60 system (UIC60 rail) has been adopted by Network Rail for the UK route network. In terms of austenitic manganese steel (AMS) special trackwork design and manufacture, Edgar Allen is a world leader, and is a regular exporter particularly to the USA (AREMA - 982, 988, 989, etc.) and Hong Kong (MTRCL, KCRC, HK Tramways). All our cast manganese steel units are cast in our own foundry in Bathgate, Scotland. Our customers include national networks (passenger and freight), high-speed commuter networks and heavy haul railways. Our turnouts are designed to UIC, AREMA or customer specific requirements, to suit any rail section. SWITCHES, CROSSINGS AND RAIL FOR TRAMWAY AND LIGHT RAIL SYSTEMSPaved (street-running) systems require special designs and materials, particularly where longevity is required to avoid periodic road excavation and/or road closure for maintenance and repair. Edgar Allen's flexible manganese steel switches (points) are proven in the UK and around the world, and feature smooth operation, longevity and low maintenance. Points may be supplied suitable for power-, hand- or vehicle operation, with or without spring return. Edgar Allen frogs and crossings may be supplied with deep or floored grooves (for flange running) to suit any rail section. We also manufacture cast manganese steel rail for tight curves and tram loops; this product normally lasts around six times longer than standard rail in these applications. SWITCHES AND CROSSINGS FOR MASS TRANSIT AND UNDERGROUND / METRO SYSTEMSEdgar Allen supplies some of the world's premier mass transit and underground networks. In Hong Kong, we have been an approved supplier of switches and crossings to MTRC Limited for 25 years, and we proudly manufactured and supplied all of the switches and crossings for the Tseung Kwan O Extension (TKE), including UIC60 turnouts, diamonds, double slips, and depot scissors and turnouts. In the UK, we have been a long-standing supplier to the LUL network, and supplied all the crossings for the Jubilee Line Extension. DOCKS AND HARBOURSQuayside Systems present special challenges, especially where railway / railroad and crane tracks intersect. Edgar Allen has the experience and expertise to design and manufacture solutions for complete quayside (navy and port authority) schemes.
