ŠKODA TRANSPORTATION - Suburban Rail Vehicle Units

ČKD VAGONKA, a sister of ŠKODA TRANSPORTATION, currently has a production programme based mainly on the fundamental products in the field of passenger rail vehicles, such as:

  • Electric units
  • Railcars and motor units
  • Passenger vehicles for locomotive trains
  • Complete service for vehicles

ČKD VAGONKA is completely committed to meeting the needs of its customers - both the operators of vehicles and the commuters / passengers.

RAPID SUBURBAN TRANSPORTATION

The EMU class 471 CD unit is ideal for rapid suburban transportation within the environs of large cities. They are designed for use on 3kV DC voltage electrified tracks. The double voltage version enables simultaneous operation on tracks with 25kV / 50Hz voltage. The unit is intended for operation in Central European climatic conditions (-30°C to +40°C). The design speed of the vehicle is 160km/h; the existing type is supplied for a speed of 140km/h.

The basic units are three-car vehicles composed of the electric car, the intermediate trailer and the driving car. The two-leaved sliding doors, with a width of 1,340mm and a sill at the platform height of 550mm, enable quick entrance and exit for the passengers. The front ends of both the electric and the driving cars are equipped with automatic couplers, which enable coupling of economy train sets according to particular requirements. It is possible to control up to three other units from a single cab.

MAGNETIC RAIL BRAKES, DOUBLE SUSPENSION, WELDED FRAMES

The traction bogies are two-axle and all have a welded frame, double suspension and a hydraulic damper. The brake effect of the electric car is ensured through an electro-dynamic brake, with the possibility of energy recovery into own consumption and the trolley line. One bogie of each car is equipped with magnetic rail brake. Traction and auxiliary electromotors are asynchronous with minimum maintenance requirements.

AIR-CONDITIONED CARRIAGES

The travelling comfort of passengers is ensured thanks to the air conditioning and comfortable seats. The upper compartment of the electric car is designed as first class. The total capacity (including standings) is 630 passengers. A disabled entrance, for wheelchair-bound people can be created by placing the lifting platforms on the front entrance vestibules of the electric and driving cars.

RENOWNED PRODUCER OF PASSENGER RAIL VEHICLES

ČKD VAGONKA has, to date, produced more than 10,000 passenger rail vehicles and sets. Production of the first passenger vehicle (two axle vehicle) dates back to 1902 - the first tram car rolled off the lines in 1905, the first locomotive in 1916 and the first railcar equipped with engines from Tatra at the end of twenties. The first prototype of the electric unit was finished in 1959.

More than 1,200 VAGONKA vehicles have been supplied to countries such as Bulgaria, Italy, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Austria, Romania and Serbia. Apart from this range, over 80,000 goods wagons and special vehicles have also been produced.

Since its founding, the company has undergone a series of production, organisational and ownership changes. In 1929, VAGONKA became a part of the Ringhoffer Group, in 1997 it was bought by the holding ČKD PRAHA and, since 2005, it has been a part of the transportation section of ŠKODA HOLDING.
