Bombardier Wins Order for 25 Double-Deck Cars in Denmark

12 February 2002 10:00

Bombardier Transportation received an order from the UK-based Porterbrook Leasing Company Ltd. for the supply of 25 double-deck cars. The value of this order is approximately $50 million Cdn (36 million euros). Deliveries are scheduled to take place between November and December 2002. The new double-deck vehicles, which Porterbrook will lease to the Danish State Railways (DSB), will primarily run between Copenhagen and Lolland-Falster, as well as between Copenhagen and the southern part of Seeland.

The cars will be built by Bombardier Transportation in Görlitz, Germany. Twenty vehicles have been ordered as intermediate coaches and five as driving cab coaches. These new vehicles, which are replacing existing rolling stock, will allow DSB to better respond to the increase in ridership while improving comfort and quality.

Jürgen Fleischer, President, Regional & Commuter, Bombardier Transportation, explains: "The double-deck trains for Denmark incorporate Bombardier’s long-standing experience with this vehicle type and are tailor-made to meet the specific requirements of DSB."

Over and above their great passenger capacity, they feature a modern and transparent design of the compartments, comfortable seats, air conditioning, multipurpose areas for strollers or bicycles, smoker compartment and a vending machine in each train.

Since 1993, Bombardier has delivered more than 1,000 double-deck cars to Deutsche Bahn, which are successfully in service for local and regional transport.
