Bombardier Transportation, in consortium with Alstom Transport, announced today that it has received an order for 90 M6 double-deck coaches from the Belgium National Railways (SNCB). The total value of the contract is approximately US$199 million (€166 million), with Bombardier's share amounting to some US$108 million (€90 million). Deliveries are scheduled to take place between January 2008 and April 2009.

This is the second follow-on order to a contract for 210 double-deck cars awarded in 1999. The first options for 70 vehicles were exercised in 2004. This brings the total number of double-deck coaches ordered by the SNCB to 370. The SNCB is planning to use the new trains on the main lines leading to Brussels.

Bombardier Transportation's site in Bruges, Belgium will be responsible for the complete production of the 18 control cars as well as the final assembly of the 72 trailer cars, while the manufacturing of the bogies will take place at Bombardier's facility in Crespin, France.

André Navarri, President of Bombardier Transportation commented: "SNCB's decision to order 90 additional double-deck coaches reflects the strong confidence our customers have in our products and services. It adds to our track record of delivering important rail transportation products in Belgium and elsewhere on the European continent."

Marc Descheemaecker, Chairman of the Management Board of Belgian National Railways stated: "We are very pleased with the M6 double-deck cars which meet our passengers' expectations in terms of comfort, safety, punctuality and reliability." He added: "We particularly appreciate the fact that these cars offer a high number of seats, which make them very convenient to satisfy the growing number of clients we have year after year."
