French National Railways Confirms Follow-on Order for Electric Regional Trains from ALSTOM

"French National Railways" (SNCF) Board of Directors has just notified ALSTOM of its intent to order 29 electric regional trains, known in France as ZTERs. The contract has a total value of 152 million euros.


The three-car electric multiple units have a capacity of 214 seated places and operate at up to 200 km per hour, providing high degrees of comfort for passengers.

This follow-on order brings to 51, the total amount of ZTER regional trains ordered from ALSTOM to date by the SNCF. Their purchase is financed by the Regions of France as follows: Centre (15 trains), Brittany (17 trains), Loire (14 trains), Poitou-Charente (5 trains).

The trains will be assembled at ALSTOM’s unit in Aytré/La Rochelle, in south-west France.
