ALSTOM has been awarded a multi-year, estimated US$80 million contract (€67 million) by Amtrak, the United States' national passenger railway operator, to manage spare parts supply and provide technical assistance to Amtrak's Acela passenger fleet.

Under the terms of the contract, ALSTOM will manage a comprehensive supply chain to deliver complete overhaul packages, corrective maintenance materials and scheduled maintenance kits for the trains. In addition, ALSTOM will provide the carrier with technical assistance to help Amtrak further manage the maintenance of the Acela fleet.

Amtrak operates the largest passenger railroad network in North America with 22,000 miles (35,000km) of track providing service to over 500 destinations in 46 states. This Acela fleet, which currently comprises 20 high-speed train sets, operates in the northeast corridor, between New York, Boston and Washington.

"This contract is important for us in continuing our long-term relationship with Amtrak," commented Roelof van Ark, President of ALSTOM Transportation's NAFTA region. "We are very committed to supporting Amtrak's maintenance of their Acela fleet."
