ALSTOM to Deliver Regional Trains to Deutsche Bahn

23 January 2006 10:49

Deutsche Bahn (DB Regio AG) has ordered 30 regional trains worth about €70 million from ALSTOM in Salzgitter, Germany. The diesel multiple units (two units) of CORADIA LINT type are to be delivered between December 2007 and September 2008. In December 2008 they will take up service on the regional train lines around the city of Nuremberg.

The new, fast-accelerating CORADIA LINT trains run up to a speed of 120km/h and offer seats for 136 passengers. Great attention has been paid to a comfortable, barrier-free layout of the new vehicles: a wheelchair ramp, additional controls as well as separate request buttons, emergency communication buttons, additional train destination indicators in the interior and special gibs on the exterior doors of the vehicle for visually impaired people, facilitate travelling, especially for mobility-impaired passengers. The automatic gap bridging, which is carried out flush with the floor level of the vehicle, provides comfortable access for all passengers. The vehicles are also equipped with a toilet suitable for mobility-impaired passengers, which is located in one of the spacious multiple-purpose areas.

The new trains are provided with state-of-the-art heating / ventilation / air-conditioning equipment as well as a modern information system. A powerful motor meeting the requirements of the latest EU regulation stage 3a allows an environmentally friendly operation.

"We are very pleased that our proven CORADIA LINT will soon serve Bavaria. We regard this project as an important reference and hope to win further orders in this German land", said Jochen Slabon, head of the regional traffic section at ALSTOM in Salzgitter.

Since the delivery of the first vehicles in 2000, CORADIA LINT has established itself as one of the most popular regional train ranges: in total, ALSTOM has sold 337 CORADIA LINT trains in Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark to private and state transport authorities as well as operators.
