Pittsburgh, PA, October 26, 2006-Union Switch & Signal, Inc. (US&S) has deployed the next generation of railroad dispatching software to the Alaska Railroad Corporation (ARRC).
ARRC's partnership with US&S began in June 2004. The first phase was a migration to a new generation dispatch system with the cutover completed in May 2006. One key system benefit is the enhanced Direct Traffic Control (DTC) which allows the authorization of trains to occupy controlled track according to the forthcoming revision to the General Code of Operations (GCOR). Another advantage is the system's Positive Train Control (PTC) compatibility. System development is underway for the second phase, which will be the installation of the US&S PTC system.
