Exhibiting for the first time at Infrarail on stand 630, Bedfordshire company – Tracksure – will be demonstrating their patented nut locking device that prevents nuts from self-loosening through vibration.
Tracksure's device was winner of the prestigious Rail-Tech® Europe 2007 Innovation Award, for being the most innovative product with significant market potential. The patented technology behind the product is both ingenious and very simple and can be used with many different track and rolling stock applications, to radically improve safety and offer significant cost and operational benefits.
This device has been developed by Tracksure to eliminate nut loosening caused by vibration. Their system differs completely from any conventional locking nut, as it does not interfere with the original nut and bolt. Instead, the device consists of a modified bolt with a reverse thread added, a locking nut that tightens against the original nut and a serrated locking cap that fits over both, maintaining a secure fastening.
Tracksure's MD, Gerhard Dodl comments: "The latest RAIB report into the derailment at Grayrigg, published in October, cites the 'failure of fasteners' as one of the causes of the derailment. The Potters Bar rail crash in 2002 also showed the devastating results of points loosening or becoming insecure. Our device offers major safety and operational benefits to those responsible for track maintenance and can prevent tragic incidences such as these, caused by nut loosening, from occurring."
Tracksure's device is currently utilised in a number of different track applications in the USA, Canada, Holland and Italy with further trials elsewhere in Europe imminent.
