CEMEX Rail Products have supplied 2,000 pre-tensioned concrete sleepers to AMEC for the construction of the ballasted section of the City Airport extension of the Docklands Light Railway. The contract also included 10km of reinforced concrete cable troughing.
The sleepers are EG80 type with Pandrol shoulders cast in to receive e-clip rail fastenings. Four EVA plastic inserts are also cast in to carry third rail electrification. The trough system comprises interlocking precast units as a container with concrete lids for access. A Lidloc spring plate assembly has also been supplied to deter unauthorised access and this is fitted simply and quickly on-site.
CEMEX will also be supplying 16,500m³ of concrete for the manufacture of the pre-cast concrete tunnel lining segments to be used in the construction of the tunnel in the latest Woolwich-Arsenal extension and some 60,000m³ of ready mixed concrete for other on-site structural work. The tunnel lining segments will be manufactured at a factory on site by Buchan Concrete Solutions using concrete from the CEMEX plant at Dagenham. The remaining concrete will be provided from CEMEX plants at Canning Town, Stepney and Angerstein Wharf.
CEMEX manufactures a complete range of rail products including concrete sleepers, crossing bearers, cable troughing, platform systems and other bespoke precast concrete products. CEMEX is also the market leader in ready-mixed concrete. A full colour catalogue is available on request.
