RMC Assist in Major Blockade
26 September 2003 14:55
From May 28th to August 25th 2003, a section of the West Coast Mainline between Colwich in Staffordshire and Cheadle Hulme in Cheshire will be subject to a major blockade.
This mammoth undertaking by Network Rail, has been made possible thanks to the assistance of RMC Rail Products who, during the course of the project, will be delivering around 100,000 new sleepers. Under normal circumstances, these deliveries would have been facilitated directly from RMC’s Rail Products Factory at Washwood Heath in Birmingham, where the sleepers are manufactured. However, due to restricted rail paths and the need to load and unload the sleepers on a daily basis, it has been necessary to organise the operation at a converted depot on a former Steelworks site in Etruria near Stoke On Trent.
An overhead gantry crane, also supplied by RMC, will be used to remove the old sleepers as they are uplifted from the track and to load the new, replacement sleepers onto the Track Renewals Train.
In addition to their blockade and transportation services, RMC Rail Products manufacture a wide range of pre-stressed concrete sleepers, crossing bearers, cable troughing, platform systems and other ancilliary products. A complete catalogue is available on request.
