BASF Construction Chemicals - Polyurethane and Epoxy Rail Fixing and Tunnelling Systems

BASF is a multinational company focused in high-yield speciality chemistry. BASF supplies many products to the rail infrastructure construction industry, including rail fixing, grouting and anchoring systems, as well as products and equipment for sprayed concrete tunnel linings, systems for TBM tunnel construction and fire protection mortars.

RAIL FIXING AND GROUTING SYSTEMS

BASF Construction Chemicals is the largest and most successful manufacturer and supplier of the speciality chemical products used in the construction industry in the world. We have been supplying structural and precision grouts to some of the world's most prestigious projects for more than 60 years. Our expertise covers all known grouting technologies, including epoxy, polyurethane and cementitious systems.

Our MASTERFLOW® grouts have an unrivalled track record for toughness, durability and engineering excellence, proven in the world's most demanding applications.

MASTERFLOW® RG RAIL GROUTS

BASF also offers the rail engineer an integrated range of specialised grouting and fixing systems that fully meet the technical needs of the many rail fixing methods available today.

MASTERFLOW® RG rail grouts provide free-flowing polyurethane embedment grouts, including softer, highly flexible, hand and machine-applied embedment and sealing systems. Different formulations provide harder, more resilient products or faster setting products for quicker return to operation for contractors and clients working in the refurbishment and repair markets.

Our newly improved formulation, MASTERFLOW® 155RG, provides the most user-friendly, moisture -tolerant polyurethane formulation in class, completely avoiding the foaming problem seen in many other products when substrates are damp or wet. MASTERFLOW® 160RG is harder and more resistant but equally water tolerant.

In the past year alone, MASTERFLOW® RG polyurethane embedment grouts have been successfully used in major schemes in Padua in Italy, Valencia and Barcelona in Spain and Lyon in France. Fully certified independent test data are available for projects in Padua and Madrid.

MASTERFLOW® 180RG base plate grout and MASTERFLEX® 468 low modulus polyurethane joint sealant are used in the so-called Basel street-running rail system. A special machine-applied version of MASTERFLEX® 468 cures in only five minutes to allow traffic almost immediately.

More than 200,000L of MASTERFLOW® epoxy anchoring and fixing grouts have been used on various MTR projects in Hong Kong (KCR West Rail Permanent Way, Project 606/608 and Airport Link).

Our versatility is demonstrated by the 1,000t of cementitious products supplied on the recently completed Bordeaux Tramway project.

BASF truly offers a one-stop shop for rail fixing and anchoring systems!

It is not only in the field of rail fixing and grouting that BASF offers the rail infrastructure engineer expertise and support.

UGC International, BASF Construction Chemicals’ underground construction business, is the recognised worldwide technology and market leader, providing products and systems under the MEYCO® brand for tunnelling and mining. We are proud of our close association with many of the world's most prestigious and technically demanding rail and metro projects (such as Heathrow Express, Jubilee Line Extension, Madrid Metro, Athens Metro, Barcelona Metro, etc.).

Our product portfolio includes:

  • Sprayed concrete admixtures and equipment
  • Waterproofing membranes
  • Fire protection
  • Anchoring and grouts
  • Ground and structure injection
  • TBM product systems

Recent new product launches, such as MEYCO FIRESHIELD, are of particular importance to rail tunnel engineers.
