Scott Wilson's railway consultancy has been appointed by the Department of Infrastructure in the State of Victoria, Australia to provide an independent review of the Melbourne Metropolitan Railway (Train) Infrastructure. The review will be undertaken over the next six months, commencing in May 2004.
Melbourne's metropolitan rail passenger services were originally privatised in 1999 with the system being divided into two separate networks - each maintained by a different franchisee. The system was recently re-franchised back into a single network.
Scott Wilson's Director of Engineering David Coles, who is leading the work said yesterday: "We will be taking a snapshot view of the current condition of the rail infrastructure assets. We will then develop long-term maintenance renewal and improvement objectives and strategies for the rail network, in addition to providing benchmarking measures for future infrastructure leasing contracts".
He continued: "The review will cover track, structure, signalling and traction power assets. The Melbourne Underground Rail Loop assets, given their high criticality and impact on operations and customer services, are also included in their entirety in the review".
"This project, along with others recently secured in Europe and Central Asia, helps to establish further Scott Wilson's reputation as a leading international railway consultant".
