As part of its vision for integrated transport, Edinburgh is planning a rail link to the airport.
Transportation is an issue for many cities and Edinburgh is no exception. To tackle congestion, and as part of a commitment to an integrated public transport system, Edinburgh is proposing a city tram project and a rail link to the airport.
Edinburgh's tram project was first commissioned following a review by the City of Edinburgh Council. The project was driven by a desire to improve accessibility, reduce pollution and environmental damage, improve social inclusion and most importantly, reduce congestion. Scott Wilson Railways is providing technical support to the tram project, which will deliver an effective and user friendly solution to public transport needs in the city.
Edinburgh Airport Rail Link will see the construction of a new railway connected to the Scottish Railway Network. The impressive project will see 1.2km of railway in tunnels under the runway and River Almond and a new station next to the terminal building. The Airport Rail Link will provide access to the airport by rail from Glasgow and the west, Fife, the north and northeast as well as providing connections to Edinburgh city centre and the south. To help this become a reality Scott Wilson were commissioned to provide technical, environmental and operational advice to tie and provide input to a private bill, which is to be introduced into the Scottish Parliament early in 2006.
