Atkins, the multidisciplinary design and engineering consultancy, has signed a contract with Network Rail to deliver engineering management services on the 2012 programme.

Under the agreement, Atkins will provide engineering and delivery support which includes the provision of a multidisciplinary team based both in Network Rail offices and their own offices. Design and construction support and technical approvals of designs submitted by third parties and main works contractors will also be provided during the contract period, which currently runs until March 2009.

To carry out the work, Atkins is providing a co-located team based near Liverpool Street and the Stratford area, and is drawing upon resources from a number of its offices around the country, including Croydon, Plymouth and Swindon.

The 2012 programme is part of Network Rail’s comprehensive, nationwide enhancements work, which is delivering the new infrastructure and functionality needed for crucial capacity and capability improvements.
