01 November 2006 16:44

Lantal, a world-leader in the design, production and distribution of textiles and services for the international passenger-transportation market, has elected Joseph In Albon as a new member of the board. The President and CEO of Swissport International will use his in-depth industry knowledge and international commercial aviation experience to help Lantal achieve its strategic objectives.

“With his extensive industry knowledge, Joseph In Albon will make an invaluable contribution to advancing our expansion into new air and ground-transportation segments, as well as into the cruise-liner market," explained Urs Rickenbacher, CEO of Lantal Textiles. "We are very pleased to have won such an experienced and successful authority of the international transportation industry for Lantal.”

Lantal is a leading provider of textile all-in-one solutions for aircraft, buses, trains and cruise ships. The involvement of experienced experts on the board is a decisive strategic advantage for a company that services this very particular niche-market and strives to expand its market position.

Mr. In Albon has been active in the aviation industry for more than 20 years, first in various management functions at Swissair, and since 1997 as chief executive officer and board member at Swissport International. He will assume his new function as member of the board at Lantal with immediate effect.

LEADING 120-YEAR-OLD TEXTILE COMPANY

Lantal is celebrating its 120th anniversary and its 50th year in the ground transportation sector. Founded in 1886 by the Baumann family, the company originally focused on linen and half-linen used for the production of cheese in the nearby Emmental region, but constantly adjusted to changing market conditions in the course of the 20th century.

When it began to weave upholstery fabrics and the first fabrics for ground transportation in the 1950s, Lantal was able to open up promising new sales-opportunities. Following the takeover of Meister AG, Lantal started actively developing the train and bus markets in 1956.

Ever since, fabrics and carpets for the transportation industry have been Lantal’s core competence. Premium products and a great spirit of innovation are the basic principles of the company’s ongoing quest for new solutions that enhance passenger comfort.
