Rail operations, maintenance and manufacture

The rail operations division offers services for anything from track maintenance trains right up to heavy coal trains.

The rail maintenance and manufacturing arm of the business offers everything from general day-to-day servicing right through to full overhauls and build programmes.

Wagon and locomotive manufacturing

SSR can manufacture products from your design, or it can manage the entire process, from development and design right through to manufacturing the final product. It can develop fully engineered drawings so you can be sure the product will meet your needs and requirements.

The well-equipped 18,000m² manufacturing facility gives SSR the capability to perform the smallest of manufacturing jobs, right through to the largest of build programmes.

SSR's valued staff consists of highly skilled trade and professional personnel. The trade skills include welders, fabricators, electricians, fitters and machinists. These trades are supported by the design / drafting and engineering departments who bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the rail and heavy engineering business. SSR has an apprenticeship / training programme in place that ensures the skill-based requirements are met and maintained now and in the future.

SSR's manufacturing projects for 2011 include:

• 3000HP locomotive build
• 40ft container wagon build

Currently under construction, SSR is manufacturing 40ft intermodal container wagons. Designed by Worley Parsons and fitted with the highest quality and reliable equipment, these wagons offer customers an Australian designed and built container wagon that will stand the test of time.

SSR has also begun manufacture of its BRM Class Locomotive. Built in Bendigo, Victoria by its experienced team, these locos offer customers a 3000HP locomotive fitted with the latest equipment including Fastbrake and desk operated QES control system. Built off existing designs, these locomotives are proven in the field and offer high reliability and the ultimate in crew comforts. The first of the BRM Class Locomotives will be delivered in 2012.

Rail maintenance and repair services

SSR offers an extensive range of maintenance services, with a depot located at Bendigo, Australia, allowing quick and easy access to any location throughout the Victorian and New South Wales rail network.

SSR's fully equipped service vehicles and reliable qualified staff can provide the following services at any location and at any time:

Rail operations

SSR is your one-stop shop with the ability to manage, programme and path your services from start to finish, whatever your requirement. SSR provides its own locomotives, train crew and shunting staff, and can cover accreditation to shift trains for other suppliers anywhere throughout New South Wales and Victoria. SSR owns locomotives ranging from 900HP T class up to 3000HP G class with access to a large pool of lease locomotives. SSR can also provide driver trainers for crew and route assessments.

Rail vehicle inspection services

SSR also offers a wide range of rail vehicle inspection services tailored to each customer's individual requirements. Inspections can be conducted in the field or in the workshop.

It can plan repairs, upgrades or emergency repairs to get your rolling stock up and running again and can take care of all your needs.

Bogie overhauls

SSR has over 30 years of experience in bogie overhauls and re-builds. It specialises in freight, locomotive and passenger car bogie overhauls. It tailors the overhauls to meet individual customer specifications.
