Mitron Receives IRIS Certificate

01 July 2009

Mitron Oy, a leading European supplier of public transport passenger information and safety systems, has received as the first Finnish company the IRIS Certificate according to the International Railway Industry Standard for the international railway industry. The IRIS certification was received on Mitron Oy's first attempt.

The IRIS quality standard was defined by The Union of the European Railway Industries (UNIFE). The certification supplements the ISO 9001 quality standard in order to meet the special requirements of the railway industry. The standard was set up by leading global rail vehicle manufacturers and system integrators such as Bombardier Transportation, Siemens Transportation Systems, Alstom Transportation and AnsaldoBreda.

Juha Siitonen, CEO of Mitron Oy, said: "We are extremely pleased that we achieved the IRIS certification, as this will further strengthen our position on the railway market. The IRIS standard has now become a prerequisite to be selected as a supplier by the rail vehicle manufacturers and system integrators. In companies certified according to IRIS, vehicle manufacturers and integrators find a guarantee for the quality management system they are looking for. Since our quality management system already exceeded the requirement of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, the IRIS certification went smoothly with excellent results."
