KME - LCD Monitors and TFT MonitorsBased in the south-east of England, monitor manufacturer Kent Modular Electronics (KME) is increasing its presence in the rail industry. Working with a variety of companies across the rail network, KME's monitors are currently being utilised in control rooms, train cabs and in public information displays. LCD for CRT replacement, touch-screen, IP sealed housing and sunlight viewable displays are just a sample of the many monitor enhancements available as part of the customer-focused service offered by the company. LCD MONITORS TO REPLACE CRT EQUIPMENTWith over 25 years' experience designing and manufacturing monitors in a variety of industries, constant investment in research and development has enabled KME to expand its portfolio from the CRT monitors which formed a key part in the company's original product range, to today's state-of-the-art LCD displays with screen sizes available from 3.5in up to 46in. Now that the CRT era has ended, the majority of CRT monitors are no longer being manufactured. Along with our standard LCD screens, KME now specialise in LCD for CRT replacement monitors that are designed to fit into existing CRT chassis and are physically and mechanically compatible with the existing CRT monitors, and handle slow-scan (legacy) signals. The different LCD monitor ranges include advanced deep-dimming 2000:1, slow-scan legacy signal (multiscan) versions which accept non-standard video signals, AC and DC power supply, enhanced vibration and shock resistance, video buffer (multi-drop) and RS232 remote control. LCD DISPLAYS RANGEManufactured in wide variety of formats – including head, chassis, desktop, handheld, panel-mount and rack-mount – all our monitors offer versatile mounting options for flexibility. The standard rack-mounted displays are designed for 19in equipment racks and the head-mounted displays are designed for arm or wall-mount applications. Built for your needs, and featuring touch-screen capability, the monitors come in a choice of paint colours with non-glare safety glass as standard. They can operate at 12VDC or 15VDC to 30VDC, as well as 110VAC or 230VAC. LARGE FORMAT LCD DISPLAYSIncluded in KME's standard range of monitors are their new large format displays, available in sizes up to 46in. Ruggedly designed to withstand the vigorous demands of station platforms and on-train use, they come with the option of IP sealing to make them suitable for installation outdoors. The monitors are suitable for a number of rail displays, such as digital signage and public information screens for platform and on-train applications, and control room screens. There is also a line of LCD replacements for the obsolete CRT monitors. LEVEL-CROSSING LCD MONITORSThe latest of KME's custom-designed rail displays is the level-crossing monitor. Initially to be used in a Network Rail project in Portsmouth, the monitors have been designed predominantly as a surveillance tool. The 8.4in LCD-TFT cube works as a direct replacement for existing monochrome CRT monitors, which are becoming obsolete and difficult to replace. The 'plug and play' units can quickly and simply replace existing CRT monitors or be used in new installations – retro-fitting into the CRT monitor's aperture and utilising the same housing – thus keeping costs and hassle at a minimum. CUSTOM LCD MONITOR DESIGNSWith the standard ranges of LCD monitors, KME's dedicated team can custom design a display to suit your needs. Additional extras that are popular on these displays include touch-screen capability; sun visors; KME's trademarked Helioview and Heliobond technologies; and legacy signal capability. INDOOR AND OUTDOOR SUNLIGHT-VIEWABLE DISPLAYSA recent release from KME is our new technology Heliobond™ – an optically bonded glass system that enables transflective LCD screens to be used outdoors or in areas where a more rugged style is necessary. The transflective technology enables the LCD screen to work in direct sunlight by combining transmissive and reflective technologies to provide near-perfect daylight viewing, whilst the Heliobond technology protects it from external influences.
