The recent £1m revamp of Nottingham railway station has seen East Midlands information display systems specialist Infotec provide both temporary and new permanent pieces of equipment to help with the successful completion of the project.

The station has just re-opened after a six-week closure organised to allow installation of a new platform, 143 new signals and six miles of new track. Four signal boxes have been closed and replaced with two new workstations at Derby signalling centre, two level crossings have been renewed and a further two replaced with footbridges.

During the closure East Midlands Parkway station was used as the main alternative departure point for Nottingham passengers heading to London, Leicester, Liverpool, Manchester and Sheffield as well as those returning from these destinations. Infotec provided all customer information displays when Parkway opened in 2009.

To ensure customers were kept fully up to date with the arrangements and with details of the bus service operating between Parkway and Nottingham stations, Infotec designed and built two temporary summary of departure displays.

These were mounted on trailers designed for traffic lights and road signs at the two stations.

As part of the same order, Infotec has also supplied a permanent summary of departures display for use in the street underneath where the tram bridge will be at Nottingham Station and a next train indicator display on the platform at Beeston.

Infotec projects manager Steve Hames said: "We are delighted to have played a part in this significant project. Keeping customers informed plays an important role in keeping them happy and moving to where they want to go and that is what our displays have helped achieve."

Infotec is based in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, and is currently celebrating its 21st anniversary and recently won The Railtex Award for Station Facilities. Infotec also provides information displays for other transport sectors and is currently awaiting the outcome of a short-listing for Transport Supplier of the Year in the National Transport Awards which take place on 17 October in London.
