Ikusi Supplies the Video Information System for the New RENFE Local Train Network

25 May 2006

Ikusi is to install a video information system, based on the latest generation of TFT colour screens, in the RENFE Civia local train network. These trains were manufactured by CAF.

This system allows for the presentation of information, entertainment, and is generally designed to cater for the present and future communication needs of the train user. Furthermore, the system is integrated with other systems, mainly for control, management, configuration and loading of system contents.

The video information system that Ikusi is to incorporate in the Civia trains uses the latest technology in order to present the passengers with information in a versatile and graphic way. Above all, what must be highlighted is the fact that the system has been developed in order to cater for both the current needs of communication with the passenger as well as others that may arise in the future.

The information is automatically generated from the operating position, or wherever the train unit is running at each moment. It is synchronised with the centralised train communication for system control and the transmitting of information from the land-based control centre. For further development at a future date, it is also equipped with a broadband train-land communication system for the automised loading of entertainment content. This equipment means that the Ikusi video information system is one of the most advanced in the field of local train networks around the world.

Another defining feature of this system is that it allows the coexistence of both information content and entertainment. Among the information content on offer are: identification of destination, main stations, general map of the line, train stops, next stations, connections and emergency messages. Insofar as entertainment is concerned, the system enables the broadcasting of generic or institutional entertainment content. It can also be used as a means of advertising and contains an audio outlet.
